Happy Halloween from Incognito Youthful Heart

Posted by: Jeanette |

October 1, 2016

I love Halloween because Youthful Hearts of all ages are often more willing to dress up and PLAY. A little bit of play can go a long way toward boosting our happiness and improving our health. Play is the purest form of joy and is essential for problem solving, harmonious relationships and creativity. We don’t lose the need for imaginativeness and amusement as we grow up. However, like other important lifestyle habits, we must consciously choose to make PLAY an ongoing practice. Make it a top priority to frequently participate in activities that help you to experience pleasurable, fun and purposeless play. Here's a video of me having some fun for All Hallow's Eve.

Video: Happiness Goes Viral

Posted by: Jeanette |

August 17, 2016

From Youtube: "What is it about laughter that's contagious? Sometimes you just can't stop from smiling when you hear or see it. Last September, an elderly couple from Iowa infused the internet with laughter and joy. Their random act of happiness at Mayo Clinic hit You Tube and made more than 6 million people smile. And that, say Francis and Marlow Cowan, is what keeps them young"

Getting Up and Down From Floor Video #14

Posted by: Jeanette |

March 27, 2016

One of my favorite functional exercises  (and, in my opinion, the most important to practice DAILY!) is getting up and down from the floor. Don’t wait until you fall down to try and work out how to get up. If you practice getting up and down from the floor once a week, you might be surprised at how easily you can get up. Watch this video and notice how many different ways my beautiful Youthful Hearts class members do this. :-)

What do you think would happen if you tried to ride a bicycle that had been designed to go right when you steer left, and go left when you steer right?  This awesome video demonstrates so effectively why I am passionate about including brain health exercises in my 50+ fitness programs. We humans can get very set in our ways and be on autopilot as we get older.

After 50 Movement, Poetry for the Soul

Posted by: Jeanette |

January 25, 2015

Movement is my favorite natural medicine and therapy. I love many forms of uplifting movement including dance, play, exercise, walking, and stretching. Even when I'm sitting for awhile, I'm always shifting and moving around. I feel so much more alive and open when I do. Expressive dance is one of my passions. It puts me in touch with my inner wisdom and helps me open a channel to higher wisdom as well. Some of my best insights and creative ideas have come to me shortly after free-form dancing or playing without purpose. Here's a poem I wrote at the end of a wonderful day of play and dance. I hope it inspires you to get up and do something you love to do! Blessings to you.

The world champion of Toastmasters 2014 Public Speaking Competition really touched me with this most beautiful presentation. His uplifting words are at times playfully humorous and very profound. Watching this 7 minutes video is well worth your time. Important message for seniors, boomers and ALL AGES! Life can be kind to us, but it also sometimes tears us apart on the inside, and we may forget how unique and special we each are. Can we put ourselves back together?

Dance Around the World

I LOVE to dance. How about you? Dance is one of my favorite art forms, and it's my #1 preferred way to exercise. Just put on some great music and start moving. Anyone can do it-- no choreographed steps required! Dance is a universal language and one of the best ways we can express ourselves. It's a great stress reliever and burns calories while we're having fun. Ever wonder what people around the world look like when they dance? Well Matt Harding did, and he traveled to the far corners of the globe to find out and dance with many different people. This awesome video follows his moves.

My 50th Birthday!

Posted by: Jeanette |

July 30, 2013

I'm so lucky and grateful to have many wonderful people in my life! All week long, I've been celebrating a major milestone of my life: TURNING 50! For over 19 years I've been teaching fitness programs geared toward boomers and seniors, and I'm finally qualified to take my own classes. Woo-hoo! My class members surprised me with lots of birthday merriment on my actual birthday. They wanted me to feel special for joining their elite club (I do!), and what fun it all was and still is. I had "Happy Birthday" sung to me so many times that I lost count. Then over the weekend I spent time with dear family and friends, and we went on a couple of excursions that I'll never forgot.  I guess turning the big five-o ain't so bad after all. Here are a few photos from my fabulous birthday week.

What is the Ancient Art of Qigong? (Pronounced Chi-Gung)

July 1, 2013 |

Support active aging, inner peace and vibrant longevity through the practice of Qigong, a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. Qi means energy and Gong means skill. Qigong (also spelled Chi-Kung) is the art and science of using rhythmic breathing techniques, gentle, slow repetition of movement and and a calm mindful state to circulate life energy, or Qi, throughout the body's energy pathways called meridians. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is thought that if the flow of qi is blocked or unbalanced at any point on a pathway, we may become ill. When the qi flows freely in a balanced fashion, health is restored, and disease prevented.

It provides inspiring and irrefutable evidence of play's vital importance in every part of our lives. It shares powerful stories of play healing trauma, reducing crime, resolving conflicts, finding ingenious solutions to seemingly intractable problems, and making life worth living (to name just a few.) Even short periods of exercise can boost the metabolism and support heart and brain health.  If you have limited mobility then you can modify and follow along while sitting in an armless chair. (This episode is a bit longer than the usual 5 minutes because it includes an encore "performance" for those who want to go through the routine a 2nd time.)

I want to shine the spotlight on a very special lady who I am lucky enough to have in my Fit and Fun Class. Her name is Lorri Murke and she is such an inspiration to me and many other women, as you will discover when you read her story. I'm guessing that many of you have, like me, complained about your hair at one time or another. (I've had my share of what I felt were "bad hair days!") Well, Lorri doesn't have ANY hair, and she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever met. Lorri has raised the bar for me on what it means to accept yourself and get on with living your life! Her courage and resilience are admirable to say the least, and what a joy she is to be around! I'm so blessed to have her radiance shine on me weekly.  I asked her to write a bit of her story so that I could share it with all of you. Here's what she wrote:
