Happy Halloween from Incognito Youthful Heart

I love Halloween because Youthful Hearts of all ages are often more willing to dress up and PLAY. A little bit of play can go a long way toward boosting our happiness and improving our health. Play is the purest form of joy and is essential for problem solving, harmonious relationships and creativity. We don’t lose the need for imaginativeness and amusement as we grow up. However, like other important lifestyle habits, we must consciously choose to make PLAY an ongoing practice. Make it a top priority to frequently participate in activities that help you to experience pleasurable, fun and purposeless play. Here's a video of me having some fun for All Hallow's Eve.

After 50 Movement, Poetry for the Soul

Posted by: Jeanette |

January 25, 2015

Movement is my favorite natural medicine and therapy. I love many forms of uplifting movement including dance, play, exercise, walking, and stretching. Even when I'm sitting for awhile, I'm always shifting and moving around. I feel so much more alive and open when I do. Expressive dance is one of my passions. It puts me in touch with my inner wisdom and helps me open a channel to higher wisdom as well. Some of my best insights and creative ideas have come to me shortly after free-form dancing or playing without purpose. Here's a poem I wrote at the end of a wonderful day of play and dance. I hope it inspires you to get up and do something you love to do! Blessings to you.

The world champion of Toastmasters 2014 Public Speaking Competition really touched me with this most beautiful presentation. His uplifting words are at times playfully humorous and very profound. Watching this 7 minutes video is well worth your time. Important message for seniors, boomers and ALL AGES! Life can be kind to us, but it also sometimes tears us apart on the inside, and we may forget how unique and special we each are. Can we put ourselves back together?

I'm happy to share info about a Kickstarter* project that I'm supporting whole heartedly. "SERIOUSLY! The future depends on play" is an hour long creative documentary by Gwen Gordon that shines a bright light on the vital importance of play to our health, happiness, and the future of life itself! It provides inspiring and irrefutable evidence of play's vital importance in every part of our lives. It shares powerful stories of play healing trauma, reducing crime, resolving conflicts, finding ingenious solutions to seemingly intractable problems, and making life worth living (to name just a few.) Watch the movie trailer here.

Sometimes we feel so overwhelmed by situations in our lives that we overlook the simple, step by step actions we can take to make things better. This story beautifully demonstrates what an impact we can have when we focus on one thing at a time. You'll especially enjoy this story if you are, or have ever been, a caretaker for others (persons or animals) and wondered if what you do/have done for them matters.

Which come first for you: happiness or success? Many people think, "if I lose weight, or have more money, or find the right mate or am more successful at work, then I'll be happy."  But it turns out that this happiness formula is backwards.  Research actually shows that every single relationship, business, educational and health outcome improves when we become more positive first.

I want to shine the spotlight on a very special lady who I am lucky enough to have in my Fit and Fun Class. Her name is Lorri Murke and she is such an inspiration to me and many other women, as you will discover when you read her story. I'm guessing that many of you have, like me, complained about your hair at one time or another. (I've had my share of what I felt were "bad hair days!") Well, Lorri doesn't have ANY hair, and she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever met. Lorri has raised the bar for me on what it means to accept yourself and get on with living your life! Her courage and resilience are admirable to say the least, and what a joy she is to be around! I'm so blessed to have her radiance shine on me weekly.  I asked her to write a bit of her story so that I could share it with all of you. Here's what she wrote:

Have you checked in with yourself today? How are you feeling and what are you thinking? What are you focusing on in this "NOW" moment? Are you feeling good because you're tuned into what you want in life and enjoying your life pursuits, or are you feeling down because you're tuned into what you don't want (such as negative circumstances and issues) and therefore lacking inspiration?

Small Change

I love inspirational stories! Here's an endearing one that pulled my heartstrings.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. He asked, "How much is an ice cream sundae?" "Fifty cents, replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.

We all have an inner kid who wants to come out and play. If we ignore this part of ourselves for too long, then anxiety builds and our immune systems becomes compromised. Playtime is an important piece of the of the wellness pie.  Positive emotions such as love and joy actually help the cells in our body do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. There is an entire field of science dedicated to studying the affect that our mental processes and emotions have on our health. It is called psychoneuroimmunology. To me, this is FASCINATING!

One of my Favorite Inspirational Stories about Strength
A girl and her mother were walking along a road when they came across a large stone. The girl said to her mother, "Do you think if I use all my strength, I can move this rock?" Her mother answered, "If you use all your strength, I am sure you can do it." The girl began to push the rock.
